物事がうまくいかないとき、無理に事を進めようとしないで、様子を見ることも必要です。この「様子を見る」には、以下のようなものがよく使われます。文脈の中で覚えていきましょう。
■ see if it works / see how it goes

Do you really think this project will go well?
（このプロジェクト、本当にうまくいくと思う？）

Let's see how it goes.
（まずは、様子を見てみようよ） |
■ wait and see
（例）
| A: |
I wanna apply for a job with ABC.
（ABC社受けようと思ってるんだよね）

| B: |
But I read in the newspaper that ABC company will wait and see about taking on any new employees this year.
（でも、ABC社は、今年の新入社員の採用を見送るって新聞に書いてたよ） |
※「Just you wait and see.＝今に見てろ、覚えてろ！」という捨てゼリフじみた表現もあります。
物理的に何か（誰か）の様子を見る、というときには、以下のように言います。
（例）

I am going out for a while, so could you check on the bread in the oven sometimes.
（オーブンの中のパン、ときどき様子を見てね）

I will, if I remember...
（覚えてたらね…） |
また、「事前に計画するのではなく、なりゆきで決める」、という意味での「様子を見る」は、「to play it by ear」と言います。

（今週金曜、飲みに行かない？）

Let's just play it by ear. Right now, I can't say if I will have finished my work.
（成り行き次第だね。現時点では仕事終われるかわかんないし…） |
