Judo matches are held
between individuals and between teams. Some competitions
are divided into 8 categories, depending on body
weight. Others are fought according to dan, age
or other considerations. And some make no distinction
whatsoever.
Judo is conducted with every courtesy throughout,
so both contestants bow politely to each other at
the beginning and end of the bout.

Both contestants return
to their lines in the middle of the competition
area, then stand in the shizen hon-tai posture.
