Sex
A happy, healthy life should also include a fulfilling sex life.
For those men and women with partners, time should be put aside for sex,
particularly if there are special circumstances that mean extra care
needs to be taken. Prescription drugs such as Viagra mean many more men
- and women - can enjoy sex well into their later years. If a man or
woman is alone, there is even more reason to seek out friends of the
opposite sex, and not to shy away from the opportunity for close relationships.
Albert. 75, stood up in the dining room of the old
folks' home one night and looked around at the women having dinner.
"Hey ladies!" he shouted. "Anyone who can guess what's
in my hand can sleep with me tonight!"
There was a stunned silence. Finally, one elderly woman called back.
"A house!" He looked at her. "Yes!" he roared
back. "That's close enough!"

Financial Planning
There are two choices here - to accept the limitations of your retirement
income and plan carefully to live within them, or to plan to earn additional
income. Many men have started successful businesses after their retirement,
while others have taken up casual employment where their knowledge, experience
or skills can be used.
Getting Organised
A planned retirement should become a diligently organised habit. Before
you retire, about 90% of your day is made up of repetitive, organised
activity. When you are working, you don't have to consciously decide
to get out of bed at 6.30am, drive to work and start at 8am; you just
do it every day. Your job may involve different problems but, most of
the time, your approach to them will be the same as it has always been.
Overall, your life is a routine, and you feel confident and in control.
In retirement, old habits don't apply. Unless you have planned otherwise,
you have to decide whether or not to get out of bed every morning when
you wake. When you do rise, you have to decide what to do next, even
if it's as simple as deciding whether to walk to the shop and buy a newspaper,
return home, make coffee and sit and read. Then before you know it, it's
lunch-time. After lunch, you may have to decide whether to read a book
or have a nap, if there's nothing else more pressing on the agenda.
Do these things for the first 30 days of retirement and these will become
your new habits, and will be very difficult to break. This is the point
at which an overwhelming feeling of worthlessness sets in.
If, however, you plan to rise at a certain time, walk for 30 minutes
then become involved in organized activities every day, all day, and
you do this for 30 days, this will become your new habit. You won't need
to keep deciding what to do next. Your life will be structured and, if
your activities are properly chosen, you will find a new identity and
have goals and feel that your life is worthwhile. It's never too late
to start learning new things. You may want to write a book, become a
teacher or take up a new sport. You may want to become a leader or participant
in a favourite charitable organization, or start a new organization or
club and gain recognition as its founder. You may even want to let it
all hang out and become a nude model. Anything is possible when it's
planned.
The concept of sitting under a palm tree doing nothing for the rest of
your retired life is a myth promoted by retirement funds and lotteries.
It just makes you fat, dull and boring. And sunburnt. Most men can do
it for just a few weeks before they go crazy - or their wives murder
them.
