日本の陸地の面積は約378,000
です。日本は小さい国とよく言われますが、それでも、日本列島の北から南のはてまでとなると、約3,500kmはあり、その気候や風景の変化たるや他の国とは違った多彩
な姿を持っています。
しかし実を言うと、アメリカの州の１つであるカリフォルニア州よりも日本が小さいということは、あまり知られていません。カリフォルニア州は約
411,000もあります。

Japan's land area is approximately 378,000 .
It is often said that Japan is a small country. However,
the archipelago stretches some 3,500 km from the
northernmost end to the southernmost, which means that
climate and scenery vary greatly from region to region.
A fact that is not very well known is that Japan is smaller
than California in the United States, which has a land
area of about 411,000.

What
are the origins of the Japanese language? |
日本語がいちばん似ている言語は朝鮮語です。確かに主語・目的語・述語の並び方などの共通 点があります。しかし、まだ、同系の言語であるという証明はされていません。
日本語はウラル・アルタイ語族の1つではないか、南方系のマライ・ポリネシア語族ではないか、チベット・インドの諸語と関係があるのではないか、タミル語と同系ではないかとか、実にいろいろな説があります。
起源はわかりませんが、言語としては、中国との文化的な交流の中から、中国語の語彙を多数、日本語の中に受け入れ、さらに漢字の中国字音から平仮名、片仮名を作りだすなどして、漢字と仮名で構成される日本語が作られていきました。

The closest language to Japanese is Korean. There are
definite commonalities in the arrangement of the
subject, direct object, and predicate. However, there
is no determining evidence that they belong to the same
linguistic family.
There are many theories about the origins of the Japanese
language: one of the Ural-Altaic languages; one of the
southern, Malayo-Polynesian languages; a relative to the
Indo-Tibetan languages; or one of the Tamil languages.
While its origins remain uncertain, the Japanese language
has incorporated many Chinese words. The hiragana
and katakana syllabaries were created based on
the Chinese readings for the characters, resulting in
a language that incorporated both Chinese characters and
kana syllabaries.
